AFA of PA ACTION ALERT
Beginning this evening at the Westminster Highlands Presbyterian USA Camp in Emlenton, PA there will be an "Open Door Retreat." This is defined as an 'ecumenical retreat for LGBTQs and their friends and supporters." The 'alphabet soup' stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, questioning.' As you will note when following the above link, there are contact persons from Mercyhurst College (Catholic) in Erie and Allegheny College (Methodist) in Meadville. The weekend activities are being sponsored by "BYKOTA" (Be Ye Kind One to Another) of Allegheny College. They describe themselves as a "Christian group for GLBT people." The group meets twice monthly at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Meadville. (Note this is the same location for monthly PFLAG meetings (Parents, Friends, Family of Lesbian and Gays).
The 1978 General Assembly of the Presbyterian USA stated, "Homosexuality is not God's wish for humanity . . . . the practice of homosexuality is sin." Unfortunately, the 1987 General Assembly called "for the elimination . . . of laws governing the private sexual behavior between consenting adults (and the passage) of laws forbidding discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, housing, and public accommodations."
Interesting that the Mission Statement of The Camping Association of the Presbyteries of Northwestern Pennsylvania says they will "provide Christ centered community living experiences intended to nurture faith, enrich character and renew body and spirit."
Engaging in homosexual activity is extremely dangerous. The Oxford University International Journal of Epidemiology found that men who have sex with men shorten their lives by up to 20 years. AIDS, hepatitis, syphilis and gonorrhea are at epidemic proportions in areas which have large numbers of individuals engaging in homosexual sex. Those who identify as homosexual are not only exposed to the diseases, but studies show they have increased mental and eating disorders, greater risks of domestic violence and substance abuse. Ones should be warned of the dangers, not encouraged to 'give it a try.'
To express your concerns, contact the Camping Association of the Presbyteries of Northwestern Pennsylvania at 114 W. Venango Street, Mercer, PA 16137 or call at 724.662.4481.
In His service,
AFA of PA encourages Christians, through education, to become involved in pro-family issues in their community, state and the nation.
